Boot Camp- February selection

The February, 2008 book selection will be BOOT CAMP by Todd Strasser
Here is a summary of the book:
After ignoring several warnings to stop dating his teacher, Garrett is sent to Lake Harmony, a boot camp that uses unorthodox and brutal methods to train students to obey their parents.
The meeting will be held Tuesday, February 26 (NOTE: this is not the usual third Tuesday of the month; we will not be meeting during Winter Recess) from 3:30-5:00 pm in the Braman Room.
The author, Todd Strasser, will be appearing at this year's fabulous Teen Book Festival (April 5) so this is your chance to read a book by someone you can actually meet very soon.
After you have read the book, you really should read some of the articles about real teens in real boot camps and the truly unbelievable and absolutelyhorrendous things that actually happen. I will bring in some of the articles which were mentioned at the end of the book. Here are some important links to look at too:

"Life As We Knew It" is November's book club selection. Reading the book got me thinking about all kinds of things, like could this really happen? Could a meteroid knock the moon out of orbit? I am using this blog to post links to "extra" information which will be interesting for our book discussion.
By the way, if you haven't already picked up a copy of this book, go to the library's circulation desk to get one! And join us at our November 20 meeting at 3:30 pm.http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2006/28apr_skyisfalling.htm

Book Club- Read LIFE AS WE KNEW IT!
The first book club meeting was a lot of fun! We had 8 very interesting people come. We handed out the book for the first real discussion, which will be held on Tuesday, November 20 from 3:30-4:30. The book is titled "Life As We Knew It," by Susan Beth Pfeffer. The premise of the book is that a meteor hits the moon and knocks it closer to the earth, causing major worldwide catastrophe. The book is written from one girl's perspective, as if she is writing in her journal. This book should give us a lot to talk about!!! What would YOU do if this really happened? There will be more copies of the book available at the circulation desk soon for everyone else who wants to come to the next discussion.
